If you can’t find that special gift at these fine establishments, then make your last stop Martin’s Wine Cellar, a few blocks uptown from Jackson Avenue, to get that fine bottle of scotch or similar. It always works.
On Father’s Day itself, spend your day in Audubon Park. Start with the Each One Save One Father’s Day Race. Each One Save One is an important mentor program dedicating to reversing the plight of young people in our community. EOSO trains mentors and places them in the school system. One hour week during the school year. It may not sound like much, but it makes a difference. A needed difference.
Participate in the run this Sunday, .5 miles or 2 miles, and learn more about the program, meet participants, pass a good time. Before and after activities take place in Shelter #10, near the Clubhouse on the Magazine Street side.
Once your done here, you can head over to the Zoo for their first annual Fried Food Festival. The Audubon Zoo just never stops adding to their festival calendar. With good reason, they have the fabulous setting under the Live Oak trees, the permanent stage, and a huge festival ground. Plus the zoo itself.
They’ll be frying everything today, including Oreo cookies. Bring your Mr. Big Stuff here to enjoy the fun with the sounds of Jean Knight – and her classic 1971 grammy nominated hit Mr. Big Stuff.
Happy Father’s Day! See you Out and About in New Orleans!
